The routines

Jock Scott and Silver Grey
- The routines -

 "No waiting.
No waste of time.
Just bake them."

Once in a while someone asks me are there any routines or techniques to follow when planning to tye a fully dressed classic. Yes there are. Critical I would say.

First thing to look at is the shape and illusion that deals with toppings. Choosing a hook and "crest work" comes always first.

I have been following these steps more or less ten years and main thing is to soften crest feathers in water, put them on a plate, adjust every single fiber using a needle and bake them in owen 45-60 seconds. And they are done holding their profile steady even after ten years. It doesn't matter if you keep your flies in frames or box. No waiting. No waste of time. Just bake them.

Topping work finished in couple minutes.

Wing set for Silver Grey done.

Framed UV-protected glass - smart choice for fly tying art that keeps all the colours bright year after year. But still recommended to avoid direct heat and sun shine when planning to hang it on the wall.
